Deuteronomy 31:1-13

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 31:1-13

How would you feel if you went into a battle already knowing you were going to win? Can you imagine the amount of confidence you would have? You wouldn’t lose sleep the night before. There would be no need to feel anxious – just feelings of comfort and peace.

Israel had this promise. Moses tells them they are about to go into the Promise Land and conquer the land. It had nothing to do with their strength or fighting ability (which probably wasn’t good because they were slaves in Egypt). It had everything to do with God and His promise to them. He promised to give them the land, and not only that, but He would also be the one fighting for them (v. 3, 5, 7-8).

Once they dwelled in the land, the charge Moses gave to Israel was to seek the Lord through His Word (v. 9-13). They were to tell the coming generations of all God had done so they might learn to fear the Lord (v. 13).

Deuteronomy 31 should remind us of the victory we have been promised through Jesus. Romans 8:37 reminds us of this truth: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus we have been delivered from our sin and provided the promise of conquering. And it wasn’t because of what we did. It was about what He did!

May the promise of victory through Jesus give you hope and peace. You know you’ve won the battle so why worry?
