Joel 3

Today’s Passage: Joel 3
As the book of Joel comes to a close there is a sobering reminder of God’s Judgment. I think that this part of God is easy to forget. We live on the latter side of the cross. Our lives are consumed with the concept of “grace” and that is GOOD. Grace is true! Praise Jesus for that!
BUT WITHOUT JUDGMENT THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR GRACE. JUDGMENT IS A PART OF GOD’S HOLINESS.
The reason that the message of grace found in Jesus is so sweet is because God is just.
““The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.” Deuteronomy 32:4
This means that God can not turn His eyes from sin and act as if it does not matter. If He did that He would no longer be HOLY. But God is also patient.
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
This prophetic book, along with all the other ones, are great reminders that, although God is patient, judgment is coming for sin.
This is why Jesus came to earth to be our Savior, because forgiveness was our greatest need. I saw this quote last week...
If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator... technology, a scientist... money, an economist... pleasure, an entertainer...
But our greatest need was forgiveness so God sent us a Savior.
We celebrate this every Christmas season. We say Jesus is the reason for the season and that is TRUE. We worship and celebrate because of HIM.. But in an equally as real sense - we are the reason for the season because we needed a Savior. Jesus came to transform our lives and deliver us from judgment into a right relationship with God.
This is what makes the gospel so attractive to humanity. This is why we proclaim it. That everyone we meet is either in a relationship with God or not... and as God’s ambassadors, as God’s stewards, we have a responsibility and a privilege to tell them the greatest news ever...
The news of Jesus Christ.
Praying for you this Christmas Season CPC! Can’t wait to worship with you on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day the coming of our SAVIOR!

Wow! Powerful message! This blog post gave me some wonderful takeaways. "Without judgment there would be no need for grace. Judgment is part of God's Holiness". Forgiveness from sin was our greatest need! Thank goodness that God loved us to send His only son, Jesus, to save us! Wonderful blog message, Nick!
