Psalm 21

Today's Passage: Psalm 21

“You”

As you read Psalm 21, notice the amount of times David uses the word “you” or “your”, to refer to God, throughout. And don’t just notice the amount he uses, observe the ways in which he uses it.

This psalm is a psalm of adoration. You can almost feel the love and worship of God that David has as he directs his prayers godwardly. If this prayer reflects the orientation of David’s heart, it’s hard to imagine anything but God being at the center of it.

Verse 7 is a key verse here:

For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.

Our trust in God and God’s steadfast love toward us are themes you see throughout wisdom literature. This is because God is worthy of our trust, and trust is a necessity to walk with God faithfully. And God’s steadfast love toward us should be what satisfies every longing of our souls, and motivates us to living lives with God at the center.

This is a great psalm to pray back to God, and a great psalm to model prayers of adoration and worship of God after. Allow your prayer life to be a reflection of the centrality of God in your heart.

I like this psalm! David was king. But he put all his trust in the "King of all Kings!" Along with Psalm 91, this is indeed a good prayer psalm! 🙏
