Mark 1:1-20
January Memory Verse: Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Mark 8:34 (NIV)
Welcome to Jumpstart in 2021! We are so excited to walk through the New Testament together as a church this year. We are praying that God would use His Word to build us up and encourage our spiritual passion and fervor.
At the beginning of new books, we will have a special video instead of a normal written post. Today, we start the book of Mark by hearing from our Lead Pastor, Tim Parsons!

My bible notes: John had a clear purpose for living and his passion allowed him to carry out that purpose!
Our main purpose is to show others the savior!

I've always been so intrigued by John the Baptist. His size, diet, clothing, but more importantly his humility.

Awesome! So proud of you Steve!
Thanks Tim! Enjoyed the video message this morning.
One thing that really jumped out at me from this passage is how Jesus was baptized and the Spirit descended upon Him, but He was then IMMEDIATELY sent out into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan.
Walking with God or being on a spiritual high doesn't PREVENT trials in our lives. Instead, walking closely with God PREPARES us to face whatever trials come our way.
Looking forward to reading through the NT this year with you, CPC family!
Good Word Thomas!! Thankful for you!
I love the memory verse this month, such an important reminder that we must deny ourselves and take up our cross!!
It has become easy recently to want to do things my way and I needed that reminder to pick up my cross.
I am excited to continue this NT study this year, thanks for a great message Tim!
Thanks John! I'm so proud of you!
Great passage! A couple things stand out here that are very applicable to us, and convicting, if I'm being honest.
First, Jesus called the disciples, and they immediately followed him. There was no hesitation, there were no questions asked, but they dropped everything and followed! What a great example for us. When Jesus calls us to something, we should act immediately and have full trust in Him!
Second, as Tim pointed out, John the Baptist was pointing others to Jesus. We should be doing the same! We should be living in such a way that people see Jesus in us, not only by what we say, but also by how we act.
Great start to the year! Looking forward to it!
Great thoughts Scottie!! So thankful for you!

Awesome! Thanks for doing this!
I love the memory verse addition! It's helpful to consider that we all experience trials but our calling as Christians is to take up our tribulatory crosses FOR JESUS! It brings purpose and meaning.
Thanks Naomi! So thank for your family!
