2 Kings 16
Today's Passage: 2 Kings 16
Sin has a way of pulling us further and further away from the Lord. It holds onto us and demands that we follow it’s ways to experience true satisfaction. Sin never leaves us as we were. It starts with a simple compromise, a little white lie, and next thing we are isolated miles away from the truth of God’s Word.
Ahaz saw this deterioration in his reign as king of Judah. Ahaz compromises on obeying and worshipping the Lord and the rest is a domino effect. Ahaz forsakes the Lord, then when his enemies surround him he turns not to God, but to Assyria to rescue him. Then our chapter closes with him desecrating the temple of the Lord.
Is there a sin in your life that is pulling you away from the Lord little by little? Often it’s small - almost insignificant or indifferent to the ways of God, but those compromises condition our heart to search for satisfaction apart from Christ. Don’t make the mistake Ahaz made, turn to Jesus and offer him EVERYTHING. Be willing to let go of anything that doesn’t cause you to worship him.
The reality is that ALL of life finds its true meaning, purpose, and significance when done in worship of Jesus. Parenting, success in the workplace, hobbies, friends, and charity are all good things, but apart from worshiping the Lord, they will never satisfy our hearts. So take inventory of your life and set Christ at the center.
