2 Kings 14
Today’s Passage: 2 Kings 14
In 2 Kings 14, Amaziah becomes king of Judah. He “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord” (v. 3). Even though he is considered to be a godly king, he still made mistakes. First of all, he did not get rid of the improper sacrificial system the people of Judah were offering up (v. 4). Second, he decided to wage war against Jehoash and Israel. Jehoash even warned Amaziah, “your heart has lifted you up. Be content with your glory, and stay at home…” (v. 10). Amaziah doesn’t listen and he ends up not winning the battle he provoked.
To me, this serves as a reminder: Be watchful of pride in our lives. Amaziah had been given the position and power by God. God had commissioned him to lead Judah. But he still showed how he was prone to be prideful:
Are there areas in life you are prone to be prideful in? How could you allow God to step into those situations?

• First, he shows he cares about the opinions of man, or he is willing to compromise on values to keep his position by allowing people to make unlawful sacrifices.
• Second, he does not take advice well and instead does what he thinks is best – which leads to death and destruction in Jerusalem.
