2 Kings 7

Today's Passage: 2 Kings 7

In our passage today, the Gospel is so evident. Think about this:

In verse 1, Elisha makes a pronouncement of bread coming for the starving Israelites. In much of the same way, all throughout the Old Testament, there was a pronouncement of a Savior. But there is doubt about if it will really happen (doubt about bread in our story; doubt about who the Savior is).

In verse 8, the bread becomes available to the outcast of society (the lepers). Their lives are changed because they now have food. Jesus in John 6:35 says, “35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Jesus is the bread that has come to set the sinner (outcast) free.

In verses 9-10, the now fed outcast decide to tell everyone, “This day is a day of good news.” In much of the same way, the disciples told everyone about where to find bread (Jesus). I’ve heard it said, evangelism (sharing Jesus) is one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.

And as our story goes, the ones who trusted found bread. The ones who doubted found punishment (v. 17).

It’s amazing how the Gospel permeates all throughout the Bible. Even in our story today, we can see so many similarities to the Gospel.

How else do you see the Gospel in this story?
