1 Kings 19:1-18

Today's Passage: 1 Kings 19:1-18

Let’s revisit for a moment, how yesterday's passage ended:

18:46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah, and he gathered up his garment and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Elijah had just had the definition of a mountain top experience. He had defeated the prophets of Baal and God’s hand was on him. Everything in his life was perfect, right?

Instead of a perfect life after a mountain top experience, Elijah faces persecution and trial. Jezebel is coming after him and is clear in her intentions: she wants him dead.

But even in the midst of these intense ups and downs, God is with him. God’s presence is the point and the hope of our passage today.

How do we see this?

1. God’s Care
After hearing of this persecution, he went to hide for his life. What did God do? He let him sleep, and then woke him up and provided something to eat for him.

What are the ways that you can see evidence of God’s care in your own life? Your trial might not be on the same level as Elijah, God’s presence and care for you is just as powerful.

2. God’s Encouragement
God spoke to Elijah through a whisper. Today, we have God’s Word, God’s Spirit, and God’s people. Those are the primary ways God speaks to us.

How many times have we been going through something, and we “happen” to stumble upon a verse or passage of Scripture that nearly perfectly describes what we are going through?

How many times has God brought a verse that we have memorized or reflected on to give us encouragement in a time of need?

How many times has someone in your Connect Group been there to care for you and encourage you when you most needed it?

God still works in these ways today.

The same God that defeated the Baals and cared for Elijah is the same God involved in your life on a daily basis.

Worship him. Adore him. Live for him.
