Revelation 22:6-21
Today’s Passage: Revelation 22:6-21
“And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Rev 22:7
What is the point of the Book of Revelation? To live like these words are true. Jesus is coming soon and is looking for those who keep his word.
Jesus ends the book with a promise and a command. Everything you read up to this point — all the judgment, wrath towards evildoers, and salvation, and deliverance of the saints — will happen (is happening). Jesus promises to come soon and fulfill every event in this book. That’s a sobering promise. How we live, act, and worship matters. Will his return be a day of glory or a day of dread for you? What about your friends, family, or neighbors?
If he is returning soon, then every passing minute has increased importance. We must desire to obey Jesus’ command in this verse… to keep or heed the words of God. The reality that Christ could return at any moment should ignite our hearts to put to death any and everything that dishonors Jesus — the one about to return with fire in his eyes, and a sword from his mouth “with which to strike down the nations” (19:12-15).
God is not coming just to check in with humanity, he is coming to bring full and complete justice against evil — and you and I have ONE hope and plea, the gospel of Jesus Christ. This plea is not merely words. Matt 7:22-23 tells us that words apart from worship (life-change) are not enough. Our lives should be transformed by the gospel, and our hearts should long to put to death any sin that doesn’t reflect our Savior.
If you knew that Jesus was returning tomorrow, what would you change in your life?
If you knew that Jesus was returning tomorrow, who would you plead with to put their faith in Christ?
