Revelation 19:1-5
Today's Passage: Revelation 19:1-5
Revelation 19 marks a shift in the book. Chapters 17-18 were focused on the judgment of Babylon. Babylon is associated with leading people away from God, thus judgment is going to happen on it.
In our chapter today, we begin in verse 1 by seeing corporate worship take place. This is a worship that is powerful and enthusiastic as it is described as a “loud voice”. In unity, the worshippers are worshiping God for who He is and what He has done. Notice, what is pointed out in our text:
Who God is:-------------------------------------What He has done:
Savior - salvation is through Him--------Judged the great prostitute (Babylon)
Glory - He is holy and pure----------------Avenged the blood of His servants
Power - He is above all things
True - He is accurate and reliable
Just - His decisions are always right
The right column happens because the left column is true. If God was not all the things on the left, He would not have the authority or morality to do what happens on the right. And because both columns are true, full worship and adoration belong to God.
So, the question is: Do we worship God for who He is or what He has done? The answer: yes! Because in both situations, one informs the other and vice versa.
Out of today’s text, what do you need to praise God for? Is it one of His attributes? Is it for something He has done in your life or even the promise of eternity one day?
