Revelation 18:15-24
Today’s Passage: Revelation 18:15-24
The section in Revelation we are currently in is juxtaposing the downfall of Babylon’s wealth, power and idolatry with the suffering of Christians.
One response we should have is to rest in the final judgment of God. Why do bad things happen to good people? It’s tough to answer sufficiently, but one way to deal with the implications of this question is to rest in the coming judgment of God that will bring true punishment and justice to those who cause bad things to happen to people.

The section in Revelation we are currently in is juxtaposing the downfall of Babylon’s wealth, power and idolatry with the suffering of Christians.
Verses 16-19: God destroys all things of wealth that are worshiped more than himself.
Verse 20: The judgment of the ungodly brings celebration of the saints. Why is the downfall of a nation celebrated? Because it is an exercise of fair justice from the Lord for the consequences of sin and suffering.
Verses 21-23: When the judgment of God comes, the amount of common grace that was shown will truly be revealed. What this means is that God has given grace to all people to enjoy food, drink, marriage, relationships, etc. As bad as life can be, it would be much worse without the common grace of God for all people. When his judgment comes, the absence of this common grace is felt in full effect.
Verse 24: As God’s judgment is enacted on Babylon, we see the justice and avenging of the blood of those who have suffered and died for the cause of Christ. God does not let the guilty go unpunished.
One response we should have is to rest in the final judgment of God. Why do bad things happen to good people? It’s tough to answer sufficiently, but one way to deal with the implications of this question is to rest in the coming judgment of God that will bring true punishment and justice to those who cause bad things to happen to people.
