Revelation 16:8-16
Today's Passage: Revelation 16:8-16
From our passage, we see God’s divine judgment:
What peaks my attention from these verses today is how the people continually rebelled against God. God had given them the opportunity to repent (v. 9, 11). But, in their pride, they chose to not follow God, and to take it a step further, they decided to make war against God. They recognized who was in control – “they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues (v. 9b)… and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sore (v. 11b).”
But this is exactly what Jesus talked about in John 12:36b-40: When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. 37 Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, 38 so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” 39 Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, 40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”
People who live in continuous rebellion to God will never see Jesus for who He truly is. Their end is destruction. We pray for people to come to know Jesus and our heart breaks for those who never will.
Are you confident that if you died today you would go to be with Jesus?

From our passage, we see God’s divine judgment:
- The fourth bowl heats up the sun so that “it was allowed to scorch people with fire.”
- The fifth bowl sends the world into darkness and deep anguish – “people gnawed their tongues in anguish.”
- The sixth bowl brings war on earth. It gathers the kings of the world to fight against God in the battle of Armageddon.
