Revelation 15:5-8
Today’s Passage: Revelation 15:5-8
As you look around the world - the election, fallen leaders, wars, abuse, brokenness, etc. - do you feel hopeless? I would understand why you would. Things are not the way that they are designed to be. God is not being honored or feared in the way He should be. It is easy to feel hopeless when you look around, especially as a Christian.
BUT it is important to understand that Galatians 6:8 is still true... “8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”
Revelation 15:5-8 is talking about the coming judgment of God on the world... specifically the wicked. As the seven angels emerge from the tent of witness they are reminiscent of the priests and their garments from Leviticus. They are sent to bring righteous judgment to the world.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: God cannot be truly loving without a hatred of sin. The wrath of God is not opposite of God’s love; it is because of God’s love. God could not be good or loving without it. God’s wrath and God’s love are two heads of the same coin.
BUT this is why God sent Jesus. Jesus was the PROPITIATION for our sin. That means that He satisfied God’s wrath on our behalf. That Jesus already paid for it if you have called on His name. Texts like these are not meant to scare you but to have you look up in thankfulness for who God is and what God has done for us in the person and work of Jesus. While God has righteous wrath for sin, He still is full of love.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. // John 3:16-17
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. // Romans 5:8
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. // 1 John 4:10
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. // 2 Corinthian 5:21
Let the truth of God’s righteous wrath lead you to thankfulness today about who you are in Jesus. Let it lead you to tell someone about who Jesus is and who they can be in Him today. God placed you where you are as a missionary!
