Revelation 14:4-20

Today's Passage: Revelation 14:14-20

I’m not sure how you personally react, but there seems to be an entire gambit of reaction to people’s reaction to blood. Some don’t mind, some get queasy. The image given to us in today’s message is clearly hyperbole, but nonetheless shows us the immensity of destruction those far from Christ will experience.

v. 20: And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia (184 miles).

That’s a lot of blood.

This picture of a reckoning highlights the amount of lostness around us. There is coming a day when Jesus will judge the earth and all of its inhabitants and we will all stand before Him to give an account (Matthew 12:36, Hebrews 4:13).

This begs THE MOST important and eternal question: am I ready to stand before God? This can be an unsettling thought, but it does NOT have to be that. We can be confident of our standing before God before the day of judgment because His word makes it clear.

1 John 5:13: I write these things to you who believe in the name of the son of God that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.

John 10:28-29: I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

Romans 9:22-23: What is God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory.

This reckoning, the great spilling of blood, is for those who did not turn in faith to Jesus Christ. The passages above reveal the security of our salvation, bought by Christ and sealed by His Spirit, to encourage us as the Day draws near.

So, let’s sit confident if we’ve turned to Jesus by grace through faith. And, let’s pray HARD for the multitudes of souls that right now are included in the winepress of His wrath; that God might spare even more by His mercy as they turn to Christ in faith.

Pray right now by name for people you know are far from Jesus, that God would have mercy on them and spare them from the wrath to come. Don’t give up pleading for them, God might indeed listen and say yes to your heart cry for their salvation.
