Revelation 6
Today's Passage: Revelation 6
Revelation 6 brings forth feelings of despair and hope. Here’s why:
Despair (v. 1-8)
In these verses, we are introduced to The Four Horseman. Let’s look at each of them:
This will be a dark time full of despair. But there is hope:
Hope (v. 9-16)
First, we need to recognize God is sovereign and in control. The Four Horseman were only able to act because they were given permission from God. God is not going to be thrown off by what is happening.
Second, we can find eternal hope amidst suffering. Verses 16-17 show us that it’s better to face death than God’s wrath because nobody can withstand God’s wrath. There is a promise of suffering to those who are faithful to Jesus (v. 9). But those who suffered for Jesus were given a white robe (symbolizing they belong to God) and told to rest until all the other faithful ones had been killed (v. 11).
Do you have hope or despair for the end? You can answer that question by first asking this one: do I have a relationship with Jesus?
If you do, you have hope! If you don’t, you have despair awaiting.
Do you need the Gospel? Does someone in your life need the Gospel? What are you going to do about it?

Revelation 6 brings forth feelings of despair and hope. Here’s why:
Despair (v. 1-8)
In these verses, we are introduced to The Four Horseman. Let’s look at each of them:
- White Horseman – many would think this is Jesus, but it is not. This horseman was given authority (Jesus already has authority). There are 3 options of this horseman according to Daniel Akin: (1) the antichrist, (2) governments that persecute Christians, or (3) the devil’s servants in general. The reason it is not Jesus is because this horseman is trying to defeat or oppress believers.
- Red Horseman – he comes to take away peace on earth with a sword. He represents war.
- Black Horseman – he represents famine, as this is typically a result of war.
- Pale Horseman – he represents sickness and disease.
This will be a dark time full of despair. But there is hope:

Until a person accepts God's revelation in the cross, no other revelation matters.
