Revelation 2:8-11
Today's Passage: Revelation 2:8-11
The Church in Smyrna is a church under persecution and tribulation. They are facing forces that John refers to as a “synagogue of Satan” — some pretty strong language to say the least!
What does God say to a group of Christians who are under intense threat?
“Don’t worry it’s all going to be ok!”
“It won’t be as bad as you think it will be!”
He says, “Do not fear.”
The way John says it here is reminiscent of how Jesus talks about fear in Matthew 10:28 —
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
The earthly pain and persecution of the first death are nothing compared to the eternal torment of the second.
Faithfulness in persecution has greater rewards than cowardice.
Don’t relent in your pursuit of God. Persevere in it.
God is worth it.
