Philippians 1:20-26

Today's Passage: Philippians 1:20-26

Isn’t it so assuring that whether we (as Christians) are alive or dead, it is for our benefit and
according to God’s plan? As Paul writes in Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Paul recognizes in these verses that to die means to be with Jesus, but to live means to glorify Jesus. And he finds it hard pressed to choose what he wants (v. 22). He longs to be with Jesus (v. 23), but at the same time, he loves and sees the necessity to help Christians grow in their faith (v. 24). He knows the purpose and calling Jesus has given him.

What would our world look like if every Christian embodied this mindset? What if we made the decision to live boldly for Jesus every day and to help others in their walk with Jesus? What if the fear of death didn’t stop us from living on mission because we are so excited to be with Jesus?
How would our moods change? What things might we prioritize? How would we manage
relationships with lost people in our lives?

I know I’ve been asking a lot of questions, but I want to ask yourself this: do I really believe “to live is Christ and to die is gain”? Do my thoughts, actions, and words support my answer? If you say no to those questions, ask yourself, what in my life needs to change?
