Psalm 93
Today’s Passage: Psalm 93
Today’s passage is all about God’s character - who God is. God is reigning over the world. He is ruling on His throne (v.2). He is worthy of our worship, of our lives, of our obedience. This Psalm points us to some reasons why we should meditate on today. We don’t know the author of this Psalm but this Psalm directs our hearts to fall down in worship at God’s feet.
GOD IS...
1) MAJESTIC (v1)
When you think of majestic things/majesty, what comes to your mind? Kings/rulers? The beauty of the earth? God’s creation? What comes to your mind. The Psalmist says that God is ROBED in majesty. It encapsulates Him. It consumes Him. It is who He is. God is majestic in His nature. We should be in awe when we think about God.
2) STRONG (v1)
The Psalmist says that God wears strength “as His belt...” meaning that it is core to who God is. God is strong. We can look to Him. He is able. Where do you need to lean on God’s strength today?
3) EVERLASTING (v2)
God is eternal... “established from old... from everlasting” (v.2) God has no beginning and God has no end. He is the only uncreated thing in the world. And because of that everything comes from Him. This is why life is found in Him. Don’t run after lesser things. He is the one our hearts and lives were designed by and designed for.
4) MIGHTY (v3-4)
The Psalmist turns to the literary device of comparison to point to the might of God. God is not just strong. He is mighty. They are two heads of the same coin but personally I feel like mighty points to more of the actions that God takes and strong points to the stability that God has. But the Psalmist talks about the floods and the waters and says that as mighty as those are - we have all witnessed the destruction of the flood waters - that God is mightier.
5) TRUSTWORTHY (v5)
Because of who God is, God is trustworthy. He is trustworthy in His nature/character. He is trustworthy in His decrees. God is trustworthy. We should be able to let go and rest in Him.
6) HOLY (v5)
Holy means to be set apart. He is wholly different from us. He is HOLY. This means He is good & righteous. This also means He is unique. There is none like Him. When we look to God we look to one whom “holiness befits [His] house.” (v.5)
“WHAT COMES TO OUR MINDS WHEN WE THINK ABOUT GOD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT US.” - AW TOZER
Take some time today and make a list of some other attributes of God’s character that come to our mind when you think about God. Try to find a verse to support each attribute. Then spend 5 minutes praising/thanking God for who He is.
