Psalm 86
Today’s Passage: Psalm 86
David was reminding himself in a prayer in Psalm 86 of something that we need to be reminded of often... GOD LOVES YOU. I know it is easy to hear that and write it off. I know it is easy to hear that and not understand the gravity of that but read it again... GOD LOVES YOU.
“I love you”, when meant genuinely, are some of the most powerful words in the English language. When someone says this, with authenticity, what they are saying is that they see you, they know you, they know your good parts, they know your bad parts and what they have CHOSEN is that regardless of all of that, and even in spite of you, that they love you. WOW.
GOD LOVES YOU. When was the last time you sat and thought about that concept and let it consume and captivate your heart?
In Psalm 86 David was struggling. He was trying out to God for help. He was asking for grace. The reason he was calling out to God in prayer is because HE KNEW GOD’S CHARACTER (v.5). He knew there was NONE LIKE HIM (v.8). He knew that THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE TO CALL ON (v.10). He knew that GOD WAS BETTER (v.11). He knew that HIS LOVE WAS GREAT (v.13).
We all go through seasons and times where we felt like David did in Psalm 86. The question is, how do we respond? Do we cry out to God? Do we claim His character? Do we cling to His love? Or do we use those times as reasons to justify our sin? To run from God until things get better? Or even to blame God?
Here is what I want you to cling to today... GOD LOVES YOU. If you have ever doubted that, meditate on the gospel and on Jesus today.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. // John 3:16
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. // Romans 5:6-8
