Psalm 54

Today's Passage: Psalm 54

Psalm 54 takes us back to 1 Samuel 23. In 1 Samuel, David is on the run for his life because King Saul was trying to kill him. It’s hard for us to imagine how this might feel, but Psalm 54 gives us insight into David’s thoughts and prayers. I want us to see 3 things:

1. David requests (v. 1-3)

His request is for God to deliver him from wickedness. David is praying for justice to be done.

2. David recognizes (v. 4-7)

David’s heart was set to praise God, even in the midst of uncertainty. He knew God personally, but also recognized the power and majesty of the Lord. And what I love is that David is not just praising God because of all the blessings he experienced in his life, but he’s praising because God is good (v. 7).

3. David remembers (v. 8)

Verse 8 shows us that David remembers how God had delivered him in the past. God’s faithfulness to David allowed David to have confidence for the future.

Reflection Questions:
• What injustice(s) in the world are you praying to end?
• What characteristic of God causes you to love Him more?
• When was the last time you recognized the Lord’s faithfulness to you?
