1 John 1:5-10

Today's Passage: 1 John 1:5-10
In a world that is increasingly calling right wrong and wrong right, this message from John is timely.
GOD IS LIGHT.
Only a few times does the Bible say what God is (God is truth, God is spirit), and this is one of them. Purity. Light. In Him is no darkness, no sin, nothing polluted, corrupt, or secretive. As we are called to emulate God, we are called to mirror this kind of light. John’s descriptor says “you MUST walk in the light as God is”, revealing our mission to continually put darkness to death and pursue holiness.
WE PROCLAIM AND WALK FAITH.
It’s not enough to say it, we must demonstrate it. To claim fellowship with the God of light but to walk in darkness is diametrically opposed to one another. In fact, John says we are liars if we proclaim the light but don’t proceed in the light. If we do, however, we have 2 incredible benefits:
In LIGHT of this (yes, pun super intended), here are some reflection questions:
Go walk with God in His glorious light. There is no better place to be than that.

- We have fellowship with one another. Brothers and sisters walking in Christ-earned righteousness. The ability to commune in God together as children who have been rescued from darkness and brought into marvelous light.
- We have the forgivness of sins. In totality. As verse 9 so clearly communicated: all we have to do to receive this forgiveness is to ask for it. Confess them. Why? He is faithful and just. He is true to His word and will do the right thing, which is to fully pardon those who ask for it.
- Are you currently walking in the light? Not meaning perfectly but pursuing holiness. Does your walk match your words? Is there any area that has not fully come into the light that needs to be exposed to the healing power of the God who is light?
- Is there a consistent lifestyle of practicing 1 John 1:9? Do you daily confess your sin and ask God to forgive you? And if so, do you trust that He really does? He says He will, so let us proceed in hope that this faithful and just judge will indeed forgive us every time we ask.
Go walk with God in His glorious light. There is no better place to be than that.
