Esther 1:1-9

Today’s Passage: Esther 1:1-9

Hey CPC! I hope that you enjoyed our time in the book of Ruth. Today we are diving into a new book... An intriguing book... The book of Esther.

A little about Esther: The book of Esther tells the story of a Jewish girl named Hadassah (Esther) who became queen of Persia and thwarted a plan to commit genocide against her people. It is set in the third year of Ahasuerus, a king of Persia. This story is treasured by the Jewish people – it’s the basis and an integral part of the Jewish celebration of Purim. It’s an incredible book showing God’s protection of His people, His sovereign hand, and the value of making a stand for Him. It is a story of God’s faithfulness and provision as He cares for His people.

This video will help you make sense of the book of Esther and place it in context of the narrative of the Bible. I highly encourage you to take a second and watch it: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/esther/

Some thoughts for today: Though God’s name is not mentioned, this is a book highlighting God’s sovereignty & activity. We often say God is working at all times & in all things. This book shows us that is true.

In chapter 1:1-9 we see the King of Persia throwing a giant party for himself (187 days). And he throws this party for one reason. To show off his GREATNESS. But what is so cool about this book is even though it starts with the greatness of the king... it is actually about the GREATNESS OF GOD..

When we look at our lives they can often feel out of control. They can feel chaotic. But what we can take hope in is that even if the toughest of circumstances:

●  God is present.
●  God is sovereign.
●  God is good.

This book highlights this over and over again. I love this book. It teaches me about how to stand for God. It teaches me about how to love God even when I am alone. I hope this book is an encouragement to you as well. Love you CPC!
