Judges 4

Today's Passage: Judges 4

Judges 4 gives us a prime example of a godly woman. Let me give you 3 reasons:

1. Deborah spoke the Word of God (v. 6-7)

God used Deborah to call Barak to action. Through her, God was revealing how the battle was going to go – Israel would win!

2. Deborah obeyed God’s Word (v. 9)

Barak wouldn’t go into battle without Deborah coming with him. What’s amazing is Deborah’s response. She doesn’t belittle him or try to replace him, rather, she decides to help him. She believed what God had said and so she went.

3. Deborah causes us to lift our eyes to the Lord.

As Israel gets victory, it should point us to the greatest victory that came through Jesus. Deborah is a small part of the rescue plan for God’s people. But Jesus would be the final and full Rescuer for God’s people.

Deborah was faithful to what God had called her to, and now we can learn from her example.

Sidenote: God definitely has a sense of humor. After Jael puts a tent peg through Sisera’s head, Scripture says, “And he died” (v. 21). Of course he died, he just got a tent peg through the skull!
