Deuteronomy 34

Today’s Passage: Deuteronomy 34

This passage is a bittersweet passage. This is about the death of Moses. Moses was a
man of God. He was humble. He led the people of Israel through the wilderness. God
used him in incredible ways. Because of what he did in Numbers 20 he was not
allowed to see the people into the promised land. It is easy to say, “What was the big
deal? He just struck a rock.” But God is just. He holds His leaders to a higher standard.
Here are some other things to think about:

1) Moses struck the rock instead of spoke to it - disobedience.
2) Moses acted out of his anger - unrighteous anger.
3) Moses took credit for the water - he didn’t give glory to God.
4) Moses struck the rock - the rock represented Jesus Christ

But in Deuteronomy 34 we see God’s character and grace on display. We may not
always understand God’s ways, in fact, it is guaranteed we won’t. But God is sovereign.
God is good. That means that God is trustworthy.

Here are some things that stuck out to me today in Deuteronomy 34...

1) God allowed Moses to see the land - GRACE.
2) God buried Moses in an unknown place - CARE.
3) God had a good plan in Joshua - FAITHFUL.

Think about this. God allowed Moses to see the land. He didn’t have to. This was an act
of His grace toward Moses. God himself conducted the funeral and burial for Moses
because He cared about Him so much. His discipline did not mean He did not love
Him. God had a good plan in Joshua. God is faithful. God is trustworthy. He had a plan
for His people.

How do you see God’s grace? Care? Faithfulness in your life? We can see it in the good
and the bad... the highs and the lows. Praise God.
