Deuteronomy 31:23-30

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 31:23-30

As Moses nears the end of his life, he pleads with the Israelites to remember and live according to God’s Word. Moses knew that God’s people, much like us, are quick to run away from God, and that His Word is the means by which we can worship and obey.

Moses instructed the Levites to place the Law next to the ark of the covenant so that God’s Word would be in a place of primary importance. It was to be equated with God’s presence. I think we are quick to walk away from God or quick to skip our quiet time because we do not understand the importance of God’s Word. It is not just another book on our nightstand, it is the holy words from the living God! His instructions. His wisdom. His heart. His guidance for our lives.

The problem is that we assume we can manage life on our own. We only run to the Lord when we face problems we can’t solve. But God’s Word is meant to bring us grace and life daily - moment by moment. In the same way that communication with a spouse or loved one results in a closer/stronger relationship, so it is with the Lord. The more time we spend in His Word and prayer, the more we walk in step with the Lord.

Where would time in God’s Word place if you were to rank your priorities? This is a growth area for us all - we could all stand to be in God’s Word more - but you need to take a step! How could you grow 1% in your time with the Lord this week? What is something you could deprioritize so that you can make God’s Word the top priority?
