Deuteronomy 30:11-20

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 30:11-20

Our passage today could be summarized like this: God’s commands are for our good, and we are given the opportunity to choose them or choose our own way. God’s way leads to life and peace and blessing; our way leads to destruction and death.

15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

Obeying God is for our good. See what Jesus says in John 10:10—

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Read those verses in light of what Jesus would go on to say in a few chapters—

15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

Note, that obedience is not a transaction—God’s blessing is still from his grace and mercy.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. Ephesians 1:3-4

My prayer for all of us is that we would choose to obey Jesus, so that we can experience the abundant life he has promised to those who love him.
