Deuteronomy 4:32-49

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 4:32-49

At the end of Deuteronomy 4, Moses begins to introduce the Law, but before he does so he casts the vision for why the Law is important and why it should be obeyed. Before Moses walks through the Law, he reminds the Israelites of who the LORD is: The LORD alone is God.

Moses is painting a picture of the one true God. In Egypt, the Israelites saw the polytheistic religion of the Egyptians and as they wandered through the wilderness they saw the gods that other pagan nations worshiped. The Israelites themselves had even created false gods to worship.

Before the Israelites could obey the Law they needed to set their eyes on the heart behind the Law they would receive. They needed to be reminded of who the Law came from.

God revealed Himself in miraculous ways to the Israelites through the Exodus. He spoke for them, He delivered them, He demonstrated His power over all things. God saved them in this way so that they would know Him.

The kind of knowing that God invites us into is not a passive knowing. God wants to bring us in to know Him deeply and be transformed radically by Him. Deep knowledge of God is meant to invite us into deep worship of God.

How we view God affects how we worship Him in our everyday lives. Take time to reflect on God through His word today. The same God that saved the Israelites from the Egyptians is the same God who sent His Son to deliver us from our sin. Praise God for the redemption He offers and reflect on how your view of God has affected how you worship God.

How have you viewed God recently? How accurate is your view to how God has revealed Himself in His word? How do you praise Him? How do you confess to Him?
