Deuteronomy 2:1-25

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 2:1-25
“These forty years the Lord your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.”
Deut 2:7
It’s easy for us to lose sight of the Lord’s presence and provision in the wilderness. God’s people are in the wilderness because of their own disobedience and lack of faith. This is God’s judgment on their unbelief, but verse seven sheds profound light on the situation. Where was the Lord in that discipline? Right by their side…providing for them year after year - blessing the work of their hands.
The Israelites are in this spot because they failed to see that God was greater than their present situation. We quickly make the same mistake when facing trials or discipline. Our eyes move to the winds and waves rather than the God who is holding fast to us. The solution is simple, look to Jesus, but it is anything but easy. It requires humility. It requires surrender. It requires taking an eternal perspective toward present sufferings. It requires us to follow Jesus’ example. Trusting that God is with us, He is in control, and He will meet our needs.
How does time change our perspectives on tough situations?
How should verse seven shape your perspective moving forward?
How has God met your needs today?

God calling his people to patiently wait on His timing stood out to me this morning. The Israelites had to pass through several other lands. I'm sure each time they were optimistic that that land may be theirs. That would make sense... but it's not what God had planned for them.
We too must wait on God. Continue doing what God has told us to do. Keep in step with Him. Don't be in a hurry to change course until He tells you it is time. Things will work best when we do them God's way.
