Deuteronomy 1:19-25

Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 1:19-25

As we begin our passage, Moses is retelling the story of Israel’s history. 38 years before Moses
is speaking here, the Israelites were on the edge of the Promise Land. They could see it. It was
the place overflowing with milk and honey. The place God promised to give to them. God told
them to enter into the land (v. 20-21), but Israel chose a different route. In their minds, it would
be better to send spies into the land (v. 22-25). (As we will see tomorrow, it doesn’t turn out
well). And here was the problem:

The Israelites lacked trusting in God. God had shown up in big ways for His people – the 10
Plagues, crossing of the Red Sea, leading them by a cloud and fire, etc. They had many reasons
why they should trust God! Yet, they didn’t. And this is what it led to:

Their hesitancy made them miss out on God’s blessing. God, since the time of Abraham, had promised to give Israel this land. Instead of trusting God and dwelling in the land, they were
hesitant and spent 38 more years wandering in the wilderness!

Have there been moments in your life where God told you to do something, yet you were
hesitant to do it? What if you missed out on a blessing God was trying to do in you, through
you, or around you?

Make the commitment today to obey God no matter what trials, circumstances, or people
stand in the way! You never know how God is going to work in a situation!
