2 Peter 1:1-11

Today's Passage: 2 Peter 1:1-11

The letter of 2 Peter was written by Peter, “an apostle of Jesus Christ.” It is likely that Peter wrote this letter from prison in Rome between 64-67 A.D. a couple years after he wrote his first letter.

Much of 2 Peter focuses on how God transforms us by His grace and gives us all that we need to pursue “life and godliness” (v. 3). 2 Peter will also address the danger of false teachers to believers.

Our passage today focuses around the grace and peace that God offers us through knowledge of God. In fact, Peter opens his letter with the sentiment, “May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” This shows us the depth of importance of grace and peace, and also points us to the only place that grace and peace may be found: “in knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”

God gives us all that we need to grow. He has given us knowledge of Him through His word and through Jesus. He gives us community so that we can grow together, and he calls us to not take this for granted, but to make every effort to supplement and grow in our faith through the grace and knowledge that he has extended to us.
