2 Corinthians 1:12-24

Today's Passage: 2 Corinthians 1:12-24

As Paul continues his introduction and begins the body of his letter to the church in Corinth, we see an aspect of Paul’s life and ministry that is important for us to reflect on and consider.

It seems that Paul at one point wanted to come and visit the church in Corinth, but ended up not doing so. He insists that this was not because of his own doing, but God, in his sovereignty, had different plans for his life and ministry.

On one hand, we must be careful to discern our decisions from the Lord. We are not Paul. And often in life, even when we are wanting to honor the Lord and follow his will for our lives, we can suffer from “decision paralysis”, where we are not completely sure how God might be leading us in a certain situation, and become stuck.

This is where God’s Word and God’s people become instrumental in helping us make wise decisions. Seeking wisdom from others can help us as we make decisions that are not necessarily black and white in Scripture (i.e. taking a job, moving to a different city, where to go to college or grad school, etc.)

Here’s what really matters: are you seeking to honor and obey God with every aspect of your life? Do you see serving your church and being an integral part of its community as one of, if not, the most important, parts of your life?

Don’t overcomplicate it—start with a ruling desire to honor and obey God more than anything else, and trust God with the rest.
