Matthew 21:12-27

Today’s Passage: Matthew 21:12-27

Today we are going to zero in on verses 12-17 - the account of Jesus in the temple. Jesus shows us what righteous anger is - anger invoked by unrighteousness expressed in God honoring ways.” He is angry about one thing in particular... they made the temple something that it wasn’t.

  • They were profiting & stealing.
  • They kept out those in need.
  • They made it about them.

You can see this when Jesus brings the lame and the blind in. He heals them. And the children started to worship. And the chief priests and the scribes were indignant. They were indignant that it was no longer about them.

I believe in the west we have a weak ecclesiology (view of the church). I believe we see the church as more of an event we attend than a movement we join. An event on our calendar more than a family we are a part of.

God designed the church. In His church we find life giving biblical family that keeps us focused on living our lives for Him. We must not make the church something it is not.

  • The church is a place of prayer.
  • The church is a place of growth.
  • The church is a place of healing.
  • The church is all about Jesus.

Questions for you to ponder today - Has God’s church become more of a chore than a joy? Have you made the church about an event or a movement/family?

I think we need to come back to the reality of how much we need God’s church. We cannot and will not thrive without it. That is just the way God designed it.

So thankful for you CPC. I believe more often than not, you embody what it means to be a church in such a real and tangible way. Let’s keep going!
