Matthew 17:1-13

Today's Passage: Matthew 17:1-13

In one of the most spectacular moments recorded in the scriptures, the Transfiguration of Jesus reveals some incredibly powerful truths to us.

1. Christ has come, and not just to dwell with us, but IN us.
As Peter scurried about attempting to make tents for all the guests on the mount that day, Jesus was showcasing a much deeper truth in revealing His Deity to human eyes and human hearts; He is indeed Immanuel! God with us, but God inside of us. Through Jesus’ victory over the grave, a home WITH God was being secured, all the while a promise of the Holy Spirit being sent who would dwell inside of us. Such beautiful and humbling truth!

2. In response to Jesus’ deity, we must listen to and obey him.
The voice of God to Peter is indication enough of our guilt in being so busy and preoccupied with serving Jesus that we forget to just be WITH him. As we commune with this God-man, who radiates the exact glory and imprint of God, we must listen to Him AND obey Him. The indication of our love for Jesus goes far beyond working for Him and into the realm of desiring to be with Him and then to commit ourselves to Him.

As you engage with the risen Christ in all of His splendor, does it lead you to wonder? Does it lead you listen and obey? Is there a desire within you to commune with Him and know Him more fully?

This is the Jesus we serve. This is the Jesus made known to us. This is the Jesus we wait for. Spend some time today basking in the splendor of His majesty, and let that wonder lead you to obey Him in all that He says.
