Matthew 7:21-28
Today's Passage: Matthew 7:21-28
In our passage we see two types of people: the people who build their life on sand and the
people who build on the rock. We also see their outcome.
Built on the sand – These people built their lives on temporary things – success, money,
relationships, etc. And when trials came, those things could not save them. (v. 27). And here is
where it ties into verses 21-23. Some people build on Christianity. They will say things like, “I
read my Bible” or “I went to church” or “the good man above will take care of me”. While those
things are good, apart from Jesus, they don’t matter. They build on what they’ve done for God,
not what He did for them. (Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons
in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? v. 22)
The outcome: Jesus will look at those who built their life on the sand and say, “I never knew
you; depart from me” (v. 23).
Built on the rock – When we take God at His Word and believe it – knowing it is all about Jesus
and His work on the cross – God says we have built our lives like a wise man who built his house
on the rock. The trails and storms of this world don’t shake us because our foundation (Jesus) is
strong. And when we have rooted our lives in Jesus, we see:
The outcome: We will enter the Kingdom of Heaven (v. 21).
Our eternity is not determined by what we can do for God. It’s determined by what Jesus has
done for us and if we have a personal relationship with Him.
Are you building your life on anything other than Jesus? Have you given Him full control of
every part of your life?
