Isaiah 60

Today's Passage: Isaiah 60

This chapter turns the corner to the final/ultimate redemption of Israel. This last redemption is different from others in the book because God is now fully displayed in their midst. So much so that there is no need for sun or moon. Yahweh’s glory is so bright that illuminates all things and draws all nations to surrender to the Lord.

This chapter is a far cry from the judgment and destruction found throughout the book, so how did we get here? God is revealing, through Isaiah, that even though he will punish them for their sins, God will save and redeem them by his grace.

“For though I have destroyed you in my anger, I will now have mercy on you through my grace.”

And this mercy is far more extensive than they thought possible. If you flip over to Revelation 21 you see striking similarities to Isaiah 60. These similarities point to Christ being Israel’s true salvation and glory. This redemption will extend far beyond a single city or people group to a kingdom of priests from every nation, tribe, and tongue. This redemption will result in our righteousness and God’s glory (v21).

It’s easy to lose sight of this promise in the mundane of life. We get busy with work, school, and life and forget to keep eternity in perspective. But this future glory should be our hope and anchor amid life’s ups and downs. It should keep us focused and running after God.

“At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”

He is coming again soon. Are we ready? Does our life reflect our future hope of glory? If Christ were to come back today, what would you wish you would have done for his kingdom?
