Isaiah 54

Today's Passage: Isaiah 54
v. 7-8: “For a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you. In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD, your Redeemer.”
How incredible a passage like this is where the very heart of God is laid bare on the pages for all readers to peer in and see with their own eyes. Sometimes we can be left wondering what God is thinking or feeling, but not in this case; He has prophesied through Isaiah to give us great detail to what is happening in the heart of the everlasting God.
He is grieved over Israel’s idolatry. He is heartbroken by their constant misoriented affections. He is angry because of their rebellion and sin, and he doesn’t hide that from them. But note, these flares of righteous zeal are qualified as momentary:
Although God should righteously and with justice hate our sin, these moments of rightful wrath are fleeting in comparison to His desire to show compassion to us.
This is the revealed Father; one who is jealous over our constant idolization and will not allow our affections to be directed toward another, but one who loves His own with compassion and everlasting love.
Think about the display of the cross and how you can see these things tied in:
This is what was occurring at the cross. Jesus was forsaken for our sin even though the Father loved Him like none other, and because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, the rest of the story still applies to us!
Today, you may feel like God has turned His face. Maybe you reckon God has hidden Himself from you. Perhaps so, due to your sin, but do not fret. For those who have trusted in Jesus, compassion still abounds. God’s heart for you is unlimited and everlasting. Although we might have to endure the discipline of God at times, we can at least know He disciplines out of love (See Hebrews 12:3-11). Turn around, see the Father, and embrace the love and compassion that awaits in His embrace on you as His child.
