Isaiah 52

Today's Passage: Isaiah 52
Isaiah 52, God urges His people to wake up, to purify themselves, and turn from the bondage of their sin. God once again references their history of captivity, but in Isaiah 52, God presents more than a solution, He presents a promise.
God promises that His people will know His name and His voice in a deep way - as creator, sustainer, and ruler of all things. That all will hear the good news, the declaration, “Your God reigns.” In the midst of their captivity, being moved from cruel king to cruel king, we see the hope of the One True King that reigns justly and kindly over all nations to the ends of the earth.
At the end of Isaiah 52, God presents another picture, the picture of a servant. This servant is promised to prosper and to be lifted up, exalted, but also to be marred beyond recognition. We see this servant sprinkling, cleansing the nations, and being presented in glory that the rulers of this earth can not question His authority.
This is the picture of Christ, the good news that is proclaimed. That the One True King is a Servant who took on the punishment for our sin and reigns victoriously forevermore. This is God’s plan for redemption for Israel, but also for all nations, that all who turn to Christ will be sprinkled, cleansed by His blood.
God cares about the near redemption of His people from captivity, but ultimately, His eyes were set on the greater picture of redemption found in the Servant. Now, we can find our hope and joy in the glory of God’s love displayed on the cross.
How have you found joy in Christ’s sacrifice on your behalf today?
