Isaiah 50

Today's Passage: Isaiah 50
The subtitle for this chapter in the ESV reads: Israel’s sin and the Servant’s Obedience. As we have been reading, the book of Isaiah is filled with glimpses of the gospel as we read and study prophecies of the Servant, Jesus, who would come and take the sin of the world upon himself in a sacrificial death, and rise victoriously from the dead, offering forgiveness to all who repent and believe.
Here is the main thing that stands out from the chapter:
The innocence of Christ (9).
Behold, the Lord God helps me;
who will declare me guilty?
Ray Ortlund writes, “The servant did not suffer because he was guilty but because others were guilty.”
Jesus took our guilt and sin upon himself.
And he took it upon himself willingly.
Then in verse 10, we see the desired response:
Who among you fears the Lord
and obeys the voice of his servant?
Let him who walks in darkness
and has no light
trust in the name of the Lord
and rely on his God.
Christ’s desired response from us is to:
Fear the Lord.
Obey his voice.
Trust in the Lord.
Rely on God.
By the grace of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, I pray that these 4 things are true in my life and your life today, for the glory of God.
