Isaiah 40

Today's Passage: Isaiah 40
Where do I begin? This chapter is like the Golden Corral of biblical goodness; a smorgasbord of scripture to feast on! Time won’t allow us to dissect the whole chapter, so let’s hone in on just a few important pieces.
What hope do we have in a world of transiency and the reality that nothing seems to last? The Word of God stands forever! (v. 6-8) No matter what culture sift occurs, no matter how ‘come and go’ political ideologies pop up and quickly die, no matter the world’s pressing agenda, it will all fade. When it’s all burnt up, God’s Word stands. Unchanged. Unaffected. Eternal and applicable. In this we hope!
What hope do we have in a world of rampant idolatry? How do we not bow down to things highly exalted before us and remember our first love, Jesus Christ? God is the only God! (v. 18-20). What compares to God? All other idols are man-made, but God is not. He is far above all created things as the holy uncreated One. Nothing can compare to Him. In this we hope!
What hope do we have in death? How do we remain steadfast when we are burnt out and worn out? Our God is the everlasting God! Able to lift us up and strengthen us when faint. Able help us to persevere even in fatigue. In Him we are empowered, renewed, and able to continue in the race in which He has planned for us. In this we hope!
Do you cherish the word of God as the only true eternal source of authority?
Do you cherish God as the only uncreated God and keep yourself from other idols?
Do you lean into God’s power and strength when weary?
HE is your hope. Isaiah 40 is full of examples as to why there is none other than YAHWEH. Dig through it today and see what else you can find as encouragement to your soul.
