Isaiah 36

Today's Passage: Isaiah 36

The word “trust” appears seven times in the Hebrew text of this paragraph (36:4, 5, 6, 7, 9). At the heart of Isaiah’s message is a call to God’s people to trust his promises with an audacious faith amid the hard realities of life.” ESV Study Bible

Even the most suspicious among us are trusters by nature. Even if you doubt everything, you are trusting in the fact that there is a better explanation to your question or a better solution to your problem.

In my opinion, this is because our trust is deeply connected with our worship.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. Romans 1:24-25

These verses point to how worship has been ingrained on the human heart. Even if you are not worshiping God, you are worshiping something.

In the same way, if you are not trusting God, you are trusting in something.

The gospel leads us to trust in God with all of our hearts. We trust God because of who he is and what he has done. We trust him because he keeps his promises to his people. And we trust him even when our external circumstances don’t make it easy to trust him.
