Isaiah 7

Today's Passage: Isaiah 7

Isaiah 7 is full of action. Isaiah has just seen God in all of His holiness. He cried out “Here I am! Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8). And then comes chapter 7. God sent Him. But I am sure it is not where Isaiah dreamed about. God sent Isaiah to Ahaz, a King in Judah who did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord (2 Kings 16) and was cowering from his enemies.

How often is this true for us? We cry out to God “Here I am! Send me anywhere... except for there and there and there. I am sure this is not where Isaiah dreamed about going but I love his response - He went. He was obedient.

AND GOD USED HIM!

1) He reminded Ahaz of who God was (v.3-9)

He reminded him that God was eternally powerful and that these enemies were merely human. He reminded him about why he can trust God. This is a lesson we need to learn. God is on His throne. He is in control. Nothing can happen in our lives without passing over the desk of God. This should bring immense peace. This should remind us to cling to Him.

2) He urged Ahaz to trust God (v.10-11)

These verses can be confusing if we don’t know the context. It looks like Ahaz is being righteous but he is not. He has already struck a deal with Assyria (2 Kings 16). He didn’t want to trust God. He wanted to trust his own methods. We can do the same. We trust in ourselves over God.

3) He gave them hope of the coming savior (v.13-14)

The ultimate reason that we can have hope is because of Jesus. Jesus is immanuel - God with us. Isaiah is full of fulfilled prophecies of Jesus. This is just one of them! Fulfilled prophecies should bring us confidence and hope.

So Isaiah was sent. He went willingly. He went obediently. He went proclaiming the word of the Lord. This is who God is. He uses broken people to show people himself. Join Him today on mission in your world! He is working all around you!
