Isaiah 2

Today's Passage: Isaiah 2

Greedy Mindset – All that I have is mine. Nobody touch it, look at it, or even think about it.
Idolatrous Mindset – I want that. I need that. I must have that.
Prideful Mindset – Look at what I accomplished. I hope people recognize this about me.
Oppression Mindset – I don’t need to help others. They are worthless. I don’t even want to think about them.

Do any of these mindsets resonate with you? Either consciously or subconsciously?

The reason I ask is because in Isaiah 2, God rejects the people of Israel because they lived with these mindsets: Greed (v. 6-7), Idolatry (v. 8), Pride (v. 12-16), Oppression (v. 6b).

And the interesting part is that Isaiah provides the remedy to these problems. It’s found in two very similar verses: 11 and 17. Isaiah says the remedy to greed, idolatry, pride, and oppression is the exaltation of God. The reason why: when God is the main focus of our hearts, soul, and mind then we no longer pursue the things of this world or desire its praise.

When God is our focus, our mindsets change to:
Giving Mindset – What can I do for others?
Thankful Mindset – All that I have is from God.
Humble Mindset – I am thankful for this opportunity. I don’t deserve this, but I appreciate it.
Serving Mindset – I want to help others. They are valuable.

If you did a scan of your thoughts over the last week, have you been living with the first list of mindsets or the second? How should a relationship with Jesus change your thinking?
