John 19:28-37

Today's Passage: John 19:28-37

Jesus was not just a man who died on the cross, He was/is the God-man who accomplished the plan of redemption. We can trust this. In our passage, we read that Jesus fulfilled 3 different Scriptures:

I thirst – Quoted from Psalm 69:21, They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.

No broken bones – Quoted from Psalm 34:20, He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Looking on Him who they pierced – Quoted from Zechariah 12:10, “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

These are just 3 of the many prophecies Jesus would fulfill during His life, death, and resurrection. It amazes me that we can have a relationship with a God who cares about the details, and who has had a plan since the beginning. Jesus’ death was not a mistake. It was not plan B. God orchestrated it all before the beginning.

And I think for us, God cares about you and your life. You are not a mistake or an afterthought. God cares so much about you to send His only Son, Jesus, to die in your place.
