John 17:1-19

Today's Passage: John 17:1-19
On a podcast I listened to the other day, Robby Gallaty said, “The more connected you are to the world, the less connected you will be with Jesus.” This quote came to mind because of verse 16: They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world (ESV).
What makes followers of Jesus ‘not of this world’ is what Jesus says in verse 8: For I have given them the words you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know the truth that I came from you; and they have believed you sent me (ESV).
If we are not of this world, how come we often find ourselves caught up in the things of this world? We worry about the newest and best electronic, or we find ourselves worried about what others think about us, or we are so caught up in making money that we work ourselves to the point of mental and physical exhaustion. These are just a few examples, but there are so many ways we can get caught up in the world.
Jesus knows our hearts. He knew we would get caught up in the things of this world. And because of that, Jesus prayed for His followers: for endurance (v. 11), for unity (v. 11), for protection (v. 15), and for sanctification (v. 17).
In your life currently, do you feel more connected to the world or to Jesus? What changes do you need to make in your life?
