John 11:45-57

Todays' Passage: John 11:45-57
In our passage today, we delve into the aftermath of Jesus' incredible miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. This miraculous event, the sixth sign in the book of John, sheds light on two essential aspects of Jesus' nature: His perfect authority and His perfect timing.
His Perfect Authority
The “7 Signs” in the gospel of John all point to the true identity of Jesus - the son of God. Jesus was the Word in the beginning (John 1). He created all things and continually upholds all things by the power of his word (Heb 1:3). Yet… Jesus said that he came “not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). He has ALL authority, and yet he humbled himself to die upon the cross to save the lost, the broken, and the hopeless.
The authority of man seeks to control and dominate, as clearly seen by the Jewish leaders in this passage. The authority of Jesus, on the other hand, laid down his life for a people that hated him. Furthermore, the authority of Jesus defeated death by rising from the dead. This should lead us to do two things. 1) Trust in Jesus’ perfect authority - that his ways are best, and he is worthy of our complete devotion. 2) Imitate Jesus by seeking to love and serve others before ourselves. They should recognize us by the way we love others.
His Perfect Timing
Additionally, the timing of these events reveals God's intricate plan. The high priest Caiaphas unwittingly spoke a prophetic statement: "It is better for you that one man should die for the people than that the whole nation should perish" (John 11:50). Little did he know that his words pointed to the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus for humanity. God masterfully orchestrated the timing of Jesus' crucifixion, aligning it with the Passover festival. Just as the blood of the sacrificial lamb protected the Israelites in Egypt, Jesus' blood covers and saves all who trust in Him.
Are you trust in Jesus’ perfect authority and timing?
Does your life look like you are trying to live by your own strength and wisdom or have you surrounded it all to Jesus?
