John 10:1-21

Today's Passage: John 10:1-21
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when it comes to following Jesus? Repentance? Commands? Rules?
This post is not meant to devalue the importance of those things, but rather to enhance them.
Do you believe Jesus when he says that he came to give you abundant life? What does this even mean? Vine’s Expository Dictionary (a great tool for your personal Bible Study) defines this phrase: more than sufficient, over and above. Basically: Jesus has come so that you can have a joyful life on both sides of heaven.
This should change how we think about obedience, suffering, seasons of flourishing, you name it. Jesus has your best interests at heart—and holiness is certainly a primary aspect of that interest.
Holiness takes sacrifice. It takes making hard choices from an eternal perspective. Holiness is God’s best for you.
Don’t confuse the abundant life with the prosperous life—at least in the sense that just because you obey you will receive financial and physical blessings. Don’t settle for those things!
Instead, pursue the glory of Christ above all things, and experience true joy, true peace, true contentment, true life—the abundant life.
