John 6:16-24

Today’s Passage: John 6:16-24

If you are anything like me throughout the daily highs and lows of life you need to be constantly recentered. To be recentered is to be locked in on what is most important. Life has a way of throwing us off balance. This story is no different.

The disciples just had a mountaintop experience. They participated in the miracle of feeding the 5000 with Jesus. WOW! Can you imagine? Have you experienced a mountaintop experience? They are GREAT! There is only one problem... the only way to go is down.

Then immediately after they entered the valley experience. They are on a boat. Jesus has not come to them yet. They set off and enter into a storm. Life is full of storms. Jerry Falwell Sr. was often quoted as saying “you are either in a storm... coming out of a storm... or about to go into a storm...” I am sure you can name some storms you have faced in life.

My life has felt like a lot of storms over the last few years. Maybe you can relate. The problem with storms is they tell you it is permanent when it is temporary. Whether on the mountain or in the valley we need to be recentered. This is exactly what happened here.

Jesus knew the storm was coming and he let them go... why? He wanted to recenter them. He wanted their eyes off the crowds and on Him. He allowed them to go into a storm. I think for a few reasons...

1) To show His presence (v.19)
2) To show His sovereignty (v.20)
3) To show His power (v.21)

But I think ultimately he wanted to show them that He was who He said He was. He was the perfect son of God and he is deserving of our hearts affection whether on the mountain top or in the valley.

We recenter our lives a lot of ways...

1) Prayer
2) God’s Word
3) His Church

How do you need to be rebalanced & recentered? What do you need to give to God?
Take 5 minutes and do it today. He is present. He is sovereign. He is powerful.
