John 4:27-42

Today's Passage: John 4:27-42
Our passage today is looking at the aftermath of Jesus’s conversation with the woman at the well.
There are two main storyline-reactions here: the disciples and the woman herself.
The disciples were marveling that Jesus was talking to a woman, something very rare for that culture in that context. Jesus was also teaching them a lesson about the importance of his mission:
The connection with the woman is that she became a part of Jesus’s mission as she began to believe in him and as she began telling others about him. What was the impact of this woman’s testimony? “Many Samaritans from that town believed in him …” (verse 39) And even more would believe because of the word of Christ and the testimony of this woman (verse 41).
The mission of Jesus continues. He is still saving, and he is using those who he is saving to be a witness to others about what God can do in their life.
May we be a church that desires to be a part of this mission!

The disciples were marveling that Jesus was talking to a woman, something very rare for that culture in that context. Jesus was also teaching them a lesson about the importance of his mission:
”34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
