John 1:35-51

Today's Passage: John 1:35-51
I want to give this section a title: THE BEAUTY IN BEHOLDING.
If I could define beholding it would be, to look upon with understanding and appreciation. It’s like when you go outside around 9pm right now, and the sun is setting and the sky is shades of blue, orange, red, and even sometimes a pink/purple. You take in the vast array of colors and appreciate the beauty of the sky.
In our passage, we see 6 people beholding Jesus. They are beginning to understand who Jesus is and why it matters so much.
1. John the Baptist (v. 36) – John saw Jesus and pointed out He was the “Lamb of God”, which has so much meaning and depth to it. The Lamb who is going to take away the sins of the world.
2. Andrew and another disciple (v. 37-41) – Andrew recognizes Jesus as the Messiah – the Savior.
3. Peter (v. 42) – Andrew brings Peter to Jesus, and we know from then on Peter stayed with Jesus.
4. Philip (v. 43-45) – Philip talks about how Jesus is who Moses and the Prophets wrote about.
5. Nathanael (v. 46-49) – Nathanael doubts in the beginning, but Jesus quickly reveals Himself to Nathanael.
And Jesus ends our passage by telling Nathanael that he “will see greater things than these” and foreshadowing His death on the cross (v. 50-51).
Are you beholding the beauty of Jesus? When was the last time you sat down and reflected on who Jesus is and what He has done for you?
