2 Samuel 22

Today's Passage: 2 Samuel 22
When you grow old and come to the end of your life, what do you think your song will look like? David’s looked like a song of deliverance. A retelling of God’s mighty hand of protection, provision, and power seen through every season of his life. But this was not random. David sought the Lord and made a conscious choice to trust him each and every day. In other words, a life lived for the Lord is made up of days lived for the Lord…
Choosing to live each day for the Lord is hard work, but it is the only proper response to the Gospel. Jesus gave up his life for our salvation, and now we get to put to death our sinful desires and live for him. This is why Scripture tells us, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matt 16:24). No one is perfect at this. Even David stumbled greatly! That's precisely why Jesus came and sacrificed Himself on our behalf. Yet, living a life for the Lord does not demand flawlessness; rather, it requires faithfulness and surrender. Entrust your soul to Jesus, placing your confidence in His superior way of life.
So, take a moment to think about the past few days and months of your life. How would your personal song sound? Are you seeking the Lord or going your own way?
Rewrite the opening stanza of David’s song in your own words…
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold and my refuge,
my savior; you save me from violence.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.”
“For this I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations,
and sing praises to your name.”
